Understanding Anxiety and Depression

Anxiety and depressive disorders are two separate categories of mental health disorders. However, they often go hand-in-hand. That is, if you have an anxiety disorder, you might also have depressive symptoms. Let’s take a closer look.

Anxiety Disorders

Mild, occasional anxiety is nothing out of the ordinary. However, a person with an anxiety disorder will frequently experience excessive, persistent, and unreasonable feelings of worry and fear—even about everyday things like going to the supermarket. If feeling anxious or panicked leaves you unable to go about your day-to-day routine, it may be time to talk to us.

There are different types of anxiety disorders, such as generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and social anxiety disorder, just to name a few. Our team is committed to supporting and empowering you within a respectful, non-judgmental environment. We are equipped with a vast range of referral sources and community resources. We’ll work with you toward positive progress, building a personalized, strategic toolkit for overcoming your individual challenges.

Depressive Disorders

Just like anxiety disorders, there are multiple types of depressive disorders, including persistent depressive disorder, seasonal affective disorder, and postpartum depression. The most common type is clinical depression or major depressive disorder, typically called simply, “depression.”

Common Signs of Anxiety and Depression

One of the most important things to understand about anxiety and depression is that these types of disorders can manifest differently from person to person. For example, “sadness” is a word you might associate strongly with depression, but depressive disorders may also cause anger, irritation, and frustration. Here are some more possible symptoms:
