The Scope of Our Practice

Let All Thrive is not a disordered eating or substance use disorder treatment facility, either inpatient or outpatient. This means that we do not provide treatment for these disorders themselves. However, we do provide treatment for the co-occurring disorders and underlying factors that often give rise to substance use and disordered eating, such as trauma and depressive disorders.

Our Client-Centered Trauma Therapy Services

Depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma, and personality disorders are some of the most common disorders that co-occur with disordered eating. Clients with disordered eating behaviors often experience low self-esteem, persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness, and similar mental health issues. In addition, disordered eating and substance use disorders often occur together in the same individual.

There are multiple types of disordered eating, including anorexia, bulimia, binge-eating disorder, and avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder. Symptoms can vary, but generally include:

Disordered eating is severely harmful. In fact, it’s second only to opioid overdoses in terms of mortality rates for mental illnesses, as it can cause severe health problems like organ failure. Furthermore, about 26% of people with disordered eating will attempt suicide. If you’ve noticed any of the above symptoms in yourself or a loved one, we urge you to contact our counseling team.

If you have thoughts of suicide or self-harm, please call or text 988 immediately to reach the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, available 24/7.

A Look at Substance Use Disorders

Like disordered eating, substance use disorders often co-occur with other mental health disorders, such as trauma, depression, and other mood disorders. Substance use disorders can encompass the use of substances both legal and illegal, prescribed and non-prescribed.

For many people, substance use begins as part of a social activity (e.g. experimentation) or because a doctor prescribed a drug, such as a painkiller. As time passes, the body adapts to the substance, and so the individual needs more of the substance to experience the same effects. The person may begin to experience withdrawal symptoms when attempting to stop usage.

Some other indicators that a substance use disorder is developing can include:

It can often feel as if life has gotten out of control as substance use disorders develop. At Let All Thrive, our caring mental health counselors can help you get back on track by addressing the underlying causes and risk factors of substance use disorders.

Therapy is an essential component of disordered eating and substance use disorder treatment. However, it’s often not the only treatment approach. While Let All Thrive does not provide treatment for these disorders directly (we treat the underlying causes and co-occurring disorders), we’re always happy to provide recommendations for inpatient or outpatient treatment facilities for those who need more intensive care.
